Description
Red Minions are closely associated with fire, being able to both withstand extreme heat and produce it themselves. The reason for their fire resistance are of a magical nature, as they are capable of generating a shield that allows them to walk through blazes and over molten rock unscathed, as well as to absorb heat and extinguish fires that way. However, their ability to generate fire is of a more mundane, alchemical nature. Their body contains a large organ that produces an oily liquid that will ignite upon air contact and can be thrown at adversaries with precise aim. It will stick to anything it hits and continue to burn, while landing in water will result in it continuing to float on the surface. It is notable that the Reds seem to have constantly irritated airways, but the reason for their constant coughing is less the smoke and fumes they are often subjected to, but rather the production of a mucus that protects their airways from said smoke.
The preferred habitat of Reds are volcanic areas, both due to them being heat sources and providing some degree of safety, since not many other creatures tend to live in such places. Their red, horned appearance is possibly a mimicry of the young of devils to prevent attacks through fear of revenge by the adults of these fearsome creatures. While Red Minions cannot deal well with cold, they can prolong the exposure to it by regurgitating their fuel and spreading it on their own bodies to be warmed by the flames.
Despite their appearance, Red Minions are poor fighters in close combat, with their fuel reserves posing an additional danger to friend and foe alike if the organ is ruptured and large amounts of the fuel come into contact with air. This is why they prefer to keep distance during fights to pelt adversaries with fire, even if those are immune to fire themselves. Intraspecific fights are usually solved through intimidation rather than actual combat.
